Thunderbird

Hey guys!! Happy Tuesday. I'm doing myth week today. Sorry it has been so long i just haven't had the time. Today I'm going to be talking about the Thunderbird. It is North American Mythology and Folklore. It is considered the "supernatural" bird of power and strength. It is richly depicted, in the art, songs or oral or many pacific northwest coasts cultures. it is found in various forms among the people of American southwest and Great Plains. It's name comes from it flapping it's enormous wings and causing thunder. The Lakota name for the thunder bird is Waki'ya a word formed from Kiya, meaning "winged" and wakha, sacred. There are many names for the Thunderbird. Some are Kw-Uhnx-chah-nulth from the Kwawkwaka'waka. Nootka called him Kw-Uhnx-Wa. The bird is intelligent, powerful, and wrathful. Thunderbirds only flew when they were carrying messages from one spirit to the other. Sometimes Thunderbirds looked like humans and joined their family. But this mainly happened along the northern tip of Vancouver island. The Sioux believed that Thunderbirds scared off dangerous reptiles. While there you have it. The Thunder bird. Here is the Thunderbird!!!thunderbird_intro.jpg
